How can you deal with spiritual attacks from a deeper understanding of the true Self?

On your journey of realizing what you are, it's always paramount to remember that whatever appears, good or bad, on a physical, emotional, or spiritual level, is intrinsically phenomenal. It means it comes and goes and can be witnessed as such. What you are as pure awareness doesn't come and go; it is aware of, but not entrenched in or touched by.

To always discriminate yourself against what appears is your path into freedom. This discrimination leads to greater clarity, and as clarity expands, your recognition deepens automatically. Many people remain stuck or engaged on a spiritual level because spiritual phenomena often have more appeal. But as you come to know yourself, every experience, even the most high or the most horrid, doesn't pertain to your Self as awareness.

Now, obviously, spiritual attacks can be as painful as actual physical pain. The sensation of pain might still be felt. However, the more you know yourself, the more you can bear what arises and remain as awareness even if more intense negative experiences occur. What is more important, as your sense of self unwraps itself from being identified with the body-mind, there is no more necessity to respond, retaliate, or harbor resentments. Instead, there is an openness to what arises, and experiences increasingly lose their defining momentum for your sense of wellbeing.

When you come to know yourself as spacious awareness, you also come to know directly that there is no experience or appearance arising outside of yourself, meaning life arises both from and as you as Source. All phenomena are therefore part of this greater Self, and in that deepening understanding, even a so-called enemy arises from you and as you. It is from that wisdom that you know that even aversion or acts following aversion become your teacher. He or she or they teach you patience, forgiveness, mercy, compassion, and most of all, that on that deeper level of clarity, the other is part of ‘You’. Appearances always serve the whole space- it means everyone learns from them.  What people play out on a physical or spiritual level is often misguided and stems from both what is held in the mind and, more fundamentally, a misperception of self. That's why showing someone else that aversion doesn't need to be responded to with the same aversion, through a deeper recognition of Self, can be such a wake-up call, prompting others to step beyond their current level of consciousness. And if they don't, then that's also okay, because not everyone needs to wake up to also be a perfect expression of the one consciousness.

At the end of this article, I would like to remind you that it doesn't mean that you need to endure abuse or physically or spiritually unhealthy situations. You can remove yourself from them without retaliating or counterattacking.
